Sheree Carter-Galvan

Sheree Carter-Galvan is the chief legal officer and an executive vice president, leveraging her creative, yet grounded and solutions-driven orientation to lead Mellon’s legal team and strategically advise the Foundation’s leadership.

Previously, Sheree served as senior vice president and general counsel at the American Museum of Natural History (AMNH), where she led the Museum’s General Counsel’s office, oversaw its human resources and revenue security departments, and served on the museum’s leadership team as a senior officer. Before her time at AMNH, Sheree served as senior associate general counsel at Yale University; providing legal guidance to diverse stakeholders across the University, partnering with Yale leadership in advancing strategic initiatives, and acting as a thought leader in the effort among universities to expand access to materials within their collections.

Sheree spent the first 10 years of her career in the New York City offices of the law firm Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP representing preeminent cultural institutions, not-for-profit and commercial entities involved in the sports and entertainment industry, and lauded artists and creatives. Following her time at Paul, Weiss, Sheree started her own practice serving as counsel for education and entertainment-focused organizations.

She holds a JD from Yale Law School and a BA in psychology from Harvard University.
