Humanities Open Book Program to Revive Backlist Work

In January 2015, the NEH announced Humanities Open Book, a grantmaking program cosponsored by the Foundation, which will help publishers identify out-of-print titles in the humanities and republish them as freely accessible licensed e-books that are downloadable, searchable, and compatible with any e-reader.  Proposals will be solicited from academic presses, scholarly societies, libraries, museums, and other institutions that publish books in the humanities to participate in the program.  The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation had supported earlier initiatives in electronic publishing in the humanities, including BiblioVault and History E-Book.
