Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Tribal Colleges and Universities

The Diversity program's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) grantmaking provides multiyear grants to a select group of private, four-year institutions whose missions are to provide an undergraduate liberal arts education.  The Foundation also supports organizations such as the Southern Education Foundation and the UNCF that work to build various critical capacities at individual HBCUs.  In general, grants awarded in this area aim to provide additional resources and professional development opportunities for faculty and student research.

The Foundation supports tribal colleges and universities by providing grants to the American Indian College Fund.  It also considers grants to organizations that promote the preparation of Native American students for entering and persisting in liberal arts colleges and universities.
