Julia Ryan
Senior Manager for Strategic Initiatives and Planning
As senior manager for strategic initiatives and planning, Julia Ryan works closely with executives and program leaders of the Foundation to help shape, implement and evaluate Mellon’s ongoing and new grantmaking initiatives.
Prior to joining the Foundation, Julia was senior advisor to the president of Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC), the nation’s largest community development financial institution, where she supported strategic decision-making related to lending and grantmaking for affordable housing, economic development, health, safety, and other revitalization efforts in underinvested communities. Julia previously led LISC’s national health equity and community safety programs, building teams with diverse experience to support locally driven projects across the country. Her twenty-five year career in community development has included service on advisory councils for the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, Vera Institute of Justice, Root Cause Coalition, and ArtPlace America.
Julia holds a BA from Middlebury College and a MPA from Columbia University.
