Deborah Cullen-Morales
Program Officer
Deborah Cullen-Morales is a program officer for Arts and Culture, focused on the visual arts sector, including conservation/preservation, museums, contemporary arts centers, and other cultural and higher education institutions.
Prior to joining Mellon, Deborah was executive director of the Bronx Museum of the Arts, where she expanded the museum’s free programming and professional training program for artists. As director and chief curator of the Wallach Art Gallery at Columbia University, Deborah oversaw the move and expansion of the gallery and founded the Uptown Triennial. As director of curatorial programs at El Museo del Barrio, she cofounded that institution’s contemporary art biennial. Deborah was curator of the print collection at the Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop and is now a Trustee for Robert Blackburn. She focuses on Latinx, Caribbean, and African American modern and contemporary art and has curated or stewarded numerous exhibitions in the United States and internationally.
She holds a PhD in art history from CUNY Graduate Center. She is a longtime member of the board of the Institute of Cultural Inquiry, Los Angeles.
