A noted expert in labor law and long-serving philanthropic executive, Charles S. Hamilton, Jr. led Mellon during our formative years.
Prior to Mellon, Mr. Hamilton was president of the Avalon Foundation. While administering Avalon's affairs, he played a leading role in the arrangements that led to the establishment of the Mellon Foundation. Mr. Hamilton began his career at Sullivan & Cromwell, where he became a partner before retiring from law.
Mr. Hamilton served as editor of the Yale Law Review, as a commissioner of the New York Port Authority, and as a member of the Westchester County Park Commission.
