DevOps Automation Engineer: Job Description

The Mellon IT team is looking for DevOps Automation Engineer to implement Cloud infrastructure for the Mellon business applications and build an automation framework to improve manual processes. The DevOps Engineer will report to IT Solutions Architect.

The engineer will work on multiple projects with various technology stacks and collaborate with internal and external teams.


Responsibilities may include, but will not be limited to:

  • Design and implement the Cloud Infrastructure to host Mellon applications
  • Work with Mellon departments to understand technical needs, gather & document the requirements
  • Build rapid POCs to demonstrate the project ideas and gain approvals
  • Create and maintain technical documentation
  • Configure automated CI/CD pipelines
  • Debug run time errors in multiple environments
  • Implement Cloud application 24x7 monitoring and alerting
  • Work with Security Engineer and implement recommended security best practices
  • Maintain and support infrastructure for the legacy web applications
  • Work with Mellon IT infrastructure team to automate IT operation process
  • Work with IT Solutions Architect to design and build shared business services & business automation processes
  • Work with various vendors & contractors on ongoing development projects
  • Ability to communicate effectively to both technical and non-technical teammates


  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field is preferable
  • 5+ years of working knowledge of Azure and AWS Cloud
  • 3+ years of working knowledge of DevOps and application deployment processes
  • 3+ hand on experience working with highly scalable web applications
  • In-depth automation experience using configuration management tools
  • Experience working with Containerization technology
  • Experience working GitHub code repository
  • Excellent troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong understanding of testing & QA processes
  • Strong understanding of security best practices and implementing secure products
  • Experience working with data warehousing platforms like Snowflake is plus

Mellon Foundation is committed to providing compensation that is competitive and equitable within the philanthropic sector.  The estimated salary range for this role is $130,000–$145,000.  The amount of pay offered will be determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to qualifications, unique skills, credentials or experience that is expected to impact the candidate’s contribution to the role.  We will also consider market data as well as the Foundation's internal pay equity framework.  Mellon offers a generous total reward package that provides base salary as well as a comprehensive benefits program.
